HOW TO: Change Theme Icons.

Note: this method is for earlier Nokia s60v2 symbian phones only and is unlikely to work on later models such as the N70.

Got a theme you like that has boring icons? Want to insert your favourite icons in all your themes? Read on..

To do this you will need Fexplorer, available free from: gosymbian or a similar file management application. These instructions assume Fexplorer is in use.

First Make a back-up copy of the icons you are about to transfer. Using Fexplorer click on the E drive and press 'options/file/make dir'. A text box will appear. Enter 'spare' or something you'll remember, then press 'ok'. A new folder will have appeared called 'spare'.

Now go to E/system/skins and open the folder. You'll see a list of numbers and letters 16 to 17 characters long. Click on one and inside will be the name of the theme. Keep clicking down the list until you find the theme you wish to take the icons from.. When you've found it, highlight the 16/17 digit 'ini' line INSIDE the folder then use 'options/edit/copy'. After it says 'copied' press left on the joypad three times (this is the 'back' command), enter the 'spare' folder you created, and press 'options/edit/paste'. Those icons are now safely saved in case you screw up grin.GIF, but you're not going to screw up, 'cos you're going to read the next bit REALLY CAREFULLY aren't you? nod.GIF

Now return to the 'skins' folder, re-open the theme you want to take the icons from, highlight the 'ini' file again, then 'options/edit/copy'.
Now go to the theme you want to modify, and when you've opened it, press 'options/edit/paste'. You will now have TWO 'ini' files within that theme folder. Highlight the one that was already in there (not the one you've just pasted into it) and use 'options/file/rename'. Whilst the name is highlighted in the text box, hold down the 'pen' key on your phones keypad and press 'copy' above the left soft-key. Once it's copied, press cancel, then highlight it again and press 'c' to delete it. DON'T PANIC hyper.GIF it's gonna work, and you've got your back-up anyway..grin.GIF
Now highlight the remaining 'ini' file (the one you pasted) and use 'options/file/rename', whilst the name is highlighted in the text box, press 'c' to delete, then press and hold the 'pen' key on your phones keypad, and press 'paste' above your right soft-key, then press 'ok'.

That's it. Sorted.

Now go select your modified theme from 'themes' in your main menu and Enjoy!

NOTES:
1.The 'folder' icons and the icons inside the folders 'gallery' and 'messaging' will not change and will remain the same as they were in the original theme.
2.If the icons have NOT changed, this may be because you accidentally pasted the 'ini' files the wrong way round. Don't worry, just go back and do it properly grin.GIF
A big shout out to imi2 who originally suggested this method in the s60 forum.
